Symmes Township, Ohio
Symmes Township was founded in 1788 by John Cleves Symmes whose purchase
of the lands between the two Miami Rivers, the Miami Purchase, led to the founding of
Cincinnati.
I-71 and I-275 have hastened the
development of Symmes Township but there is still a sense of history which lives on in
some of the township's older buildings, villages and in lifelong residents of the area
that give it a family-friendly atmosphere.
Symmes Township was formed in
1824. Stagecoach roads and railroads were at the forefront of the area's initial
growth. In 1853 the Little Miami Railroad was completed, connecting the Township
residents to commute to Cincinnati, and provide Township merchants with easy access to
Cincinnati's commercial center.
A strong link remains between
the Township's industrious German and Scotch-Irish settlers and people living in the
Township today. It is shared appreciation for open spaces, privacy and a less hectic
life. And though commercial and residential development has been a consistent
feature of the Township's proud history, Township leaders and residents alike are
dedicated to preserving the residential beauty and quality of life that has attracted
people to the area for more then 200 years.

The 12 acre Camp Dennison Nature Trail has
a one-half mile crushed limestone base hiking trail. The trail is perfect for
health-conscious residents wishing to exercise in beautiful surroundings.
